It is no longer a secret that excavators, dump trucks, cranes, European trucks, European buses, and other types of vehicles or heavy equipment produce high carbon emissions. Quite worrying about the environment.
However, United Tractors specifically designs several diesel engines used in heavy equipment to utilize SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) technology with AdBlue fluid, making combustion results more environmentally friendly.
What is AdBlue? And how can AdBlue increase fuel efficiency and be environmentally friendly so that it passes Euro 5 regulations? Following is the complete discussion.
What is AdBlue?
For those of you who are familiar with heavy equipment fuel, you will be familiar with the term AdBlue. AdBlue is a diesel filter fluid containing urea that is odorless, non-toxic, and colorless but has a multitude of benefits for diesel engines in-vehicle units.
SCR technology works together with AdBlue to create healthier gas combustion results that comply with Euro 5 regulatory standards. Unlike other fuels, AdBlue differs in its usage. While fuel generally sprays into the combustion chamber, AdBlue sprays into the exhaust.
Later, the AdBlue liquid in the exhaust will provide a chemical reaction with the exhaust gas. This reaction is able to neutralize dangerous gases such as nitrogen oxide into water and nitrogen.
Using AdBlue is quite economical, as it only accounts for 3-5% of diesel usage. To cover 7 kilometers, the vehicle needs only 1 liter of AdBlue. Economical isn’t it? Simply put, using AdBlue in a diesel engine is equivalent to four full fills of diesel.
AdBlue Benefits
Every year, the emission system regulations implemented in Indonesia continue to increase. Previously, the minimum standard was Euro 2. In 2023, vehicles must pass the emissions test and meet Euro 4 standards. In Indonesia itself, there are two types of motorized vehicles with Euro 4 and Euro 5 emission systems. Some use EGR or EGR technology. Exhaust Gas Recirculation and some have implemented SCR or Selective Catalytic Reduction technology.
For diesel vehicles with SCR technology, AdBlue is a liquid that reduces exhaust NOx emissions before entering the atmosphere. This process ensures that the emissions produced meet Euro 5 standards, which have passed environmental tests in Indonesia. Euro 5 standards have been proven to be more environmentally friendly, significantly reducing harmful pollutants in the air.
Apart from that, AdBlue also can increase fuel consumption efficiency. If you want to reduce fuel costs, you can use heavy equipment or vehicles that have SCR applied. To experience the benefits of AdBlue, you can find SCR and AdBlue technology in various European trucks and also Japanese trucks from UD Trucks.
In the Quester product from UD Trucks, AdBlue has a higher level of fuel efficiency. The Quester Euro 5 diesel tank has a capacity of up to 315 liters and the special AdBlue tank is 50 liters. If the use of AdBlue on the Quester Euro 5 is only 3-5% of diesel usage and 1 liter of diesel can be used for 3 kilometers, then AdBlue on the Quester Euro 5 UD Trucks can be used to cover a distance of up to 75 kilometers.
With an AdBlue tank capacity of 50 liters, one full charge of AdBlue can be used for a distance of up to 3,750 kilometers. So, there’s no need to doubt about savings and efficiency, OK?
What If the AdBlue Tank Is Empty?
Even though using AdBlue will be more economical compared to other types of fuel, that doesn’t mean you can ignore filling up with AdBlue. If you feel like you haven’t refilled your AdBlue for a long time, it’s a good idea to check.
To check if the AdBlue tank is empty, the MID usually displays a warning message. If this warning appears, immediately refill AdBlue on your vehicle.
What happens if AdBlue tank is empty? Of course, your vehicle unit will stop operating and cannot be started at all. To prevent vehicle damage and ensure AdBlue works effectively, make sure the AdBlue tank always has enough fluid. Regularly check the AdBlue level to maintain optimal vehicle performance and emission control efficiency.
How to Refill AdBlue?
You can refill empty AdBlue in motor vehicle units at the nearest repair shop or you can also fill it yourself if you have the liquid. What you need to know if you want to refill AdBlue is that the location of the AdBlue tank in each vehicle is different. Some are located next to the fuel tank, others in the trunk, and some in the engine room area.
How to refill AdBlue itself is actually quite easy. First, pay attention to the AdBlue warning indicator on your vehicle. If it is indicated that the AdBlue level is low, immediately fill up with AdBlue liquid.
Prepare AdBlue fluid and look for the AdBlue tank on your vehicle. After locating the tank, open the lid carefully. Slowly pour in the refill fluid by inserting the bottle’s lip. Turn the bottle clockwise until it fits securely into the tank hole, ensuring proper fluid flow.
If so, pour the AdBlue liquid slowly by applying pressure to the refill bottle so that the AdBlue liquid enters the tank. Is charging complete? Remove the AdBlue bottle and re-cap the tank.
Use of SCR and AdBlue in United Tractors Products
Carrying ESG principles, United Tractors presents products that can reduce the impact of environmental damage. UT takes significant steps to maintain environmental friendliness by incorporating SCR and AdBlue technology in UD Trucks products like the Quester Dump. This technology ensures cleaner emissions, reduces harmful pollutants, and supports sustainable transportation solutions.
Quester Dump Truck already has Euro 5 emission standards which produces greener exhaust gas compared to other heavy equipment that does not yet use the SCR and AdBlue systems.
Apart from the Quester Dump, UT’s other products like the Scania Bus Euro 5 use SCR technology combined with AdBlue. This combination enhances fuel efficiency, reduces harmful emissions, and makes exhaust gases cleaner, promoting more environmentally friendly transportation.
