Is your AdBlue® supplier currently on the VDA Global Licensee List or
Are you putting your truck and your business at risk?
Problem:
Currently, there are only 2 AdBlue® Singapore manufacturers, 1 Malaysian manufacturer, and 1 VDA certified.
Is your current supplier one of them?
Using uncertified Diesel Exhaust Fluid is a game of Russian roulette with your truck, fleet, and business. Putting you at risk of hundreds of thousands of dollars in repairs without a warranty or insurance to fall back on. This article equips you with the knowledge to protect your business and verify your suppliers hold VDA certification.
Who or what is “VDA”?
Verb der Automoblinindustrie e. V (VDA) is a German-based automotive industry regulatory body that issues AdBlue® licenses to manufacturers and distributors worldwide.
The right to manufacture and supply AdBlue® is not granted for granted. Certified suppliers who have undergone a rigorous process to achieve these international standards and coveted approvals have demonstrated a proven track record and an effective quality management system (QMS) that meets all the requirements set out by the ISO22241 quality standard.
The right to use the AdBlue® registered trademark is only obtained under a license from a VDA that has passed a rigorous ISO22241 quality management system audit conducted by one of its designated auditors.
Among other requirements, the ISO22241 Quality Management Standard requires AdBlue® manufacturers to demonstrate that:
- All production methods are well-defined, strictly controlled, and documented
- Only high-quality raw materials are used;
- Each batch of AdBlue® produced is sampled and tested using a NATA-accredited laboratory to ensure that the product meets the quality characteristics specified in the ISO22241 quality standard before being supplied to customers;
- Storage, handling, and transportation are strictly controlled and documented;
- Each product/container brought to market can be traced back to its original place of production by assigning a unique batch number; And
- Best practice documentation practices are in place (i.e. following the ISO9001 quality management system)
Why is it important for you to only purchase AdBlue® from certified suppliers?
- Quality insurance
- Contaminated or improperly manufactured DEF (Diesel Exhaust Fluid) fluid can cause expensive damage to your trucks and equipment resulting in lost productivity.
- Worse yet, using uncertified DEF (Diesel Exhaust Fluid) fluid can void your warranty and insurance claims.
To achieve this at PT. Main Partner of Indonesian Tractors, we are:
- Committed to implementing, supporting, and executing our AdBlue® Quality Management System (QMS) definition;
- Only use automotive grade urea (the purity of which we have also tested in the laboratory – not a requirement, but further ensures our product meets ISO22241 standards);
- Operate commercial-grade 5 Stage water filtration equipment with reverse osmosis and deionization;
- Use special equipment made only of materials recommended for the manufacture of AdBlue®
- Tasting and testing every batch produced, as a genuine AdBlue® supplier, we will provide you with a quality certificate for every product supplied guaranteeing its integrity and giving you peace of mind;
- Assign unique batch numbers and track each product supplied to each customer in real time;
- Implement continuous improvements to our quality management system to secure the expected AdBlue® quality standards throughout our distribution chain; And
- Collaborate closely with our distribution partners and customers to guarantee the quality of our AdBlue®
Does that mean our AdBlue® is more expensive than non-certified DEF (Diesel Exhaust Fluid)?
Absolutely not. This is a matter of quality and efficiency.
An auditor shared a story about an uncertified AdBlue® supplier who once requested a VDA audit but lacked certification.
The auditor guided the clipboard in his hand toward their “manufacturing plant,” or at least where he thought he was heading…
Instead, he discovered a large swimming pool where two men waded through a diesel exhaust mixture, wearing wife-beater singlets and Billabong shorts, armed with egg beaters as they swam. This AdBlue® creation process is not only impassable, inconsistent, and downright insulting; to quality, customer, and VDA management standards, it is inefficient and pointlessly expensive. These guys have the potential to sell to Australian customers!
Unfortunately, the auditors can’t tell us who they are ( I know truth is stranger than fiction even in our industry ).
